Updated for 2010. And no, I will not be doing all these costumes. If I do half I will be happy:

Here we go... )

I would really love to do a BlazBlue group for a con. Maybe ConnectiCon? I think there's already so much going on for AB, and I think more people go to CTCon than PortCon.

I would also really like to do a Final Fantasy XIII group, with the game finally coming out. I love the character designs for Serah and Lebreau.

Also, here is my never ending, always changing list of potential costumes. I like to keep this list for when plans change or come up, or if a group idea is needed. I am crazy.

Even though I have like 8 million costumes from anime and manga that I want to do, I also want to branch out and do more comic book, movie, concept, and original design costumes. I want to come up with a cool idea, especially after seeing this concept and the Circus themed outfits at Dragon*Con.

For me, listing and sharing all these ideas is like throwing spaghetti at the wall. Obviously I'm not going to do create most of these ideas, I just want to see what will "stick" and actually happen. Sometimes things are costumes that are a long time coming (Utena at AB) and sometimes they come up out of nowhere (Micaiah at Otakon). Plus I enjoy annoying [info]diamond_dust8 by constantly coming up with ideas, lol.

So here are my ideas for possible groups in the future, plus my costume plans for the rest of this year and the first half of next year. They're all under the cut.

Stop thinking too much, Elizabeth )

I set the bar way too high this year for costumes. Yeah. I do that a lot, but not that there's anything wrong with that. Under the cut is what I had planned for this year, compared to what has happened and changed plans for the rest of the year.

I'm hoping when I move I can set up some shelves to put my fabric on, instead of having it all in bins. That way I can see everything and know what I have, instead of searching and digging. Because I ended up finding that black stretch fabric I lost (after buying more... at least I only got another 1/2 yard and it was cheap). If we can find a three bedroom apartment (or a two with a basement and/or spare room) then I can have my own sewing room, which would be even more epic. I'm not counting on that though.

So next year's theme for PortCon is Old School. Love it. I was looking at some artwork and character designs from old RPGs and discovered some awesome stuff.

Grandia - specifically this: http://grandia.rpgplanet.gamespy.com/index.php?g1_profiles&char=12&game=g1 or http://grandia.rpgplanet.gamespy.com/index.php?g1_profiles&char=15&game=g1
Grandia II - specifically this: http://grandia-online.net/grandia-2/grandia2_artwork/6.jpg
Grandia III - specifically this: http://www.rpgamer.com/games/grandia/grandia3/art/grandia3002.jpg

I'll probably want to play the games first to make sure I like these characters first. I think I know what I want to do for PortCon too. Because I'm going back to staffing Anime Boston, I won't be planning a big costume for that. What I have planned for PortCon is pretty bad ass and is going to take a lot of work, which I'll probably start after AAC. And it's a secret :)

ETA: Just came across Luminous Arc and Luminous Arc 2 Character designs. I got 2 for my brother for Christmas and took a quick look at the awesome designs. But I took a good look at them just now. *drool*

Also, where has creatiaveuncut.com been all this time? It has TONS of art images from video games. A good resource to have.

ETA2: Damn me for finding that website! Seriously I have come across like two dozen things I want to cosplay now. GORGEOUS stuff everywhere. Ugh. WTF.

I commented on [info]krazyflower's post about Jem and I used the term "epic cosplay list of doom." I thought I would post it here, for my reference and so I can link others to it, to get potential group ideas going.

da list )

I feel like the list is missing things. I need to review the stuff I want to do again and update my list I think.

I'm wish I continued cosplaying after Otakon 2004, instead of not doing it again until ConnectiCon 2007. That's three years of lost opportunities. Oh well.

I spent $15 on three yards of a white stretch cotton and another $5 on two boxes of Dark Green Rit Dye. After dying and drying, the fabric is a dark slate blue. I don't think the fabric sat in the dye long enough. WTF. Guess I'll have to make the dark green twill I have work (I feel like Tim Gunn)...

Does anyone need stretch dark slate blue for anything? It's funny, it would be a good color for Lucca's long sleeved shirt... but I already made that costume.

Ugh I'm so mad! Why can't Joanns have a dark green stretch cotton? I bought a perfect color green twill for Saria's long sleeved shirt, realizing there is no stretch, because I wanted to use all 100% cotton fabrics for this costume. I planned on putting an opening in the back to get it to fit. I figured, Briar Rose's shirt was made of no stretch fabric and that fit just fine. But the pattern I used for Saria was different, and too tight. Right now it's like a half shirt that will button up in the back, which is fine because it goes under a jumper and you only see the sleeves and collar, but I'm wondering if that will be okay for craftsmanship. I really don't want to redo it because I put in the collar perfectly. But if I have to I have plenty of extra fabric, so I may use the pattern I used for Briar Rose, which I know will fit with a non-stretch fabric.

Why do I do this stupid hobby?

ETA: Oh yeah, I found a really nice light silver casa satin at Joanns in the red tag section for $2 a yard. No idea why it was there, but I bought 5 yards of it. Looks like Beatrix will now be happening in 2010 ^_^

So now that AB is out of the way, time to plan for the next events. I have four in the next two months. Shoot me now. This is what I want to do. It will never happen.

PortCon:
Saria (Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)
Daisy (Mario Golf)

Tea Party:
Steampunk Catepillar (two costumes, one for me and one for my brothers)

Otakon:
Celes (Final Fantasy VI)
Schala (Chrono Trigger)
Sheeta (Castle in the Sky, if I have time)

CTCon:
Setzer (Final Fantasy VI)
Edgar (Final Fantasy VI, for my brother)

Yeah, shoot me know. And I may be packing up to move right after ConnectiCon too.

So after ConnectiCon I will have made five Final Fantasy VI costumes. Can you tell what my favorite video game is?

Also now that AB is out of the way, I wanted to see again about people's interest in the Magic Knight Rayearth group. If you know anyone who might be interested, give them the link to that post.

Speaking of MKR, check out this awesome group from Fanime. Amazing.

Costume Con 29 will be held in upstate New Jersey, so [info]krazyflower plan to make sure everyone goes. While at CC27 we brainstormed some ideas for the Sci-Fi/Fantasy Masquerade and came up with a CLAMP themed entry, with costumes from the various CLAMP series.

But today I was thinking about the theme, which is Broadway, and I came up with what I think is a great idea: SeraMyu. It's not Broadway, obviously, but it is a musical with really cool stage costumes. I'm sure even though most attendees know little about anime, many will know Sailor Moon, and we can always have the MC read something that explains. The stage presentation with the lights from tech could be awesome, and the costumes would look awesome on stage.

Thoughts? Feel free to share with others who are thinking of going to CC29.

P.S. if this ends up happening, I totally claim Mars.

I'm seriously reconsidering going to Costume Con. I remember I was so excited for it, now not so much. Maybe because I haven't started making my costumes for it yet. Maybe because it's going to cost a lot because I haven't found a fourth roommate for the room with Jamila, my mom, and me. Maybe it's the crappy weather and crappy stock market that's making me just blah about it all.

I hate to bail on Jamila though, because she's staying in the room. I'm afraid to post on Cosplay.com looking for a roommate and get someone who is annoying or scary or something. I sent an email to them asking if memberships are refundable and/or transferable. We'll see what happens there.

I'm totally excited for every other convention I'm going to this year, except this one. What's the deal?

ETA: Heard back about memberships (that was quick...). They are transferable, not refundable. I'll probably still go. It will be fun. Need to get cracking on costumes though...

PortCon is four months away, and since I'm not staffing I totally plan on doing the masquerade. Gale mentioned on the NEKO boards that maybe we should the song idea I posted recently, with Magical Girls. The limit is two minutes, which is fine we can just fade out or cut the song down. I don't see anything in the rules about a limit to how many people, but their stage has always been small, so maybe we can keep it to five or six. So if you know anyone who wants to be in the masquerade, send them over to this post :)
